The first shale oil field in the Sichuan Basin of China is born

The first phase of proven oil reserves in the Fuxing Oilfield reached 10.6 million tons, achieving a strategic breakthrough of "from nothing to something" in shale oil in Southwest China, which holds great strategic significance for the exploration and development of shale oil in Southwest China.
Beijing, July 31 (Xinhua News Agency) (Reporter Liu Liang) On July 31, Sinopec announced that the proven geological reserves of the first phase of oil (20.1 million tons) and natural gas (12.352 billion cubic meters) in the Fuxing Oilfield, submitted by Sinopec Exploration Branch and Jianghan Oilfield, have successfully passed the review by the Ministry of Natural Resources, marking the birth of the first shale formation oilfield in the Sichuan Basin, China.
The Fuxing Oilfield is located within Chongqing Municipality, at the southeastern edge of the Sichuan Basin. The Sichuan Basin generally features "rich in gas but poor in oil," with long-term focus on natural gas exploration and development, while oil resources are relatively scarce. This oilfield represents a breakthrough in shale oil in Southwest China, creating a new frontier for shale oil and gas exploration and a new base for reserve additions in the Sichuan Basin.

Wei Xiangfeng, manager of the shale gas project department at Sinopec Exploration Branch, stated that the innovative theoretical understanding and key technologies developed at the Fuxing Oilfield are of great significance for supplementing and improving China's shale oil and gas exploration and development theories, technologies, and standards system. The next step is to continue deepening the understanding of enrichment patterns, strengthen the overall evaluation and deployment of terrestrial shale oil in the Sichuan Basin, strive to achieve new exploration breakthroughs as soon as possible, and implement the second shale oil reserve addition base.
